Club History:

Matamata club was formed in 1919 and was originally located in Arawa Street. In 1937 the Club purchased the land that the premises is currently on and a year later  the original clubrooms were built.

The clubrooms has since then been through quite a few changes.

The Snooker rooms additions were made in 1971 and since then we have had many international celebrities and Test matches grace these premises.

In 1983 the Rawhiti Lounge room was built with a kitchen facility to cater for this area which has a capacity to accommodate up to 150 seated members and is available to members to use for private functions, Xmas parties, 21st etc.

Around 1991 the Rewa Bar was constructed and the Kaimai lounge which we are currently in are also used as a restaurant and a bar and are also available for private functions.

"The Office" as it is affectionately known, has a wide variety of uses from being a meeting place for members or as a full on entertainment center with Sky TV available on the big screen, Snooker & 8-Ball Tables, T.A.B. Facility's, 18 Gaming Machines that can jackpot to $1000.00 cash payouts and live band entertainment & shows.

We also have an offsale license and have an excellent line of stock available.

There are a large number of social and sporting groups within the club e.g. The Rewa Bowling Club, Matamata Fishing Club, Snooker Sections, 8-Ball Section’s.

The Matamata Club is affiliated to the Club’s N.Z.  Association and all club members have visitation rights to other club’s within the association.

Visitors and Guests...

  • All members are allowed to accompany up to three guests
  • Affiliated members have the same signing-in rights as a member
  • Larger visiting groups will require approval from management

I am very proud to be in this role for your club. Time does fly and its 20 years since my arrival to Matamata. My youngest child wasn’t even born and next years she is off to university!!. Im told in another 20 years, I can call myself a local. Brought up in Morrinsville,  I joined the BNZ in 1977 and am still there today. I have two brothers still in Morrinsville, a sister in Matamata and my dad lives at Mount Maunganui. I don’t see myself moving any time, so just might make that “local” call one day.

The club is a great place—the management and President is supported by a great team. The adjuncts work hard to provide good facilities and events for the members.

I’m always available to listen to your comments and idea to make this a better place. I hope you continue to enjoy the facilities.

I was born, bred and schooled in Matamata. I am married to Miranda, and we have three children between us—Jacob, Conor and Ruby.

For the past 21 years I have worked for Comag Ltd, and have been a shareholder and Director for the past 15 years. Whilst my trade is a plumber, my role is now Estimating Manager. I enjoy fishing and participate in the adjuncts with 8-ball and snooker.

The club offers a great social network and we have some great facilities. The Club has been a part of my life since 2001 so I appreciate being able to give back by doing my part as a Vice President to help the Club continue to be a place members can enjoy and where they can relax.
